Handing

NDI-015 is pure naphthylene-1.5-diisocyanate (NDI) and is supplied in the form of fine white, or occasionally yellowish white to grayish white, crystalline flakes. Its vapor pressure at room temperature is well below 10-4 mbar.

The highest concentration of naphthylene-1.5-diisocyanate permissible in the air at places of work in the Federal Republic of Germany is 0.02ppm=0.18mg/m3. This value may not be exceeded, even for short periods.

Being exceptionally reactive, NDI must be looked upon as a dangerous material and it must therefore be handled with appropriate care.

The potential risks of NDI-015 depend mainly on the extent to which isocyanate dust, vapors, or aerosols are formed in the processing of this product.

The circumstances and operations in which workers may be exposed to NDI-015 in any of these forms are as follows: dust may rise from the solid material while it is being weighted or introduced into reaction vessels; vapors and aerosols are formed in the cross linking of hot prepolymer batches containing an excess of NDI and in the production of castings (the aerosols owe their formation to the cooling and condensation of hot isocyanate vapors).

Packaging
Standard container; sheet metal drum with polyethylene insert, contents 40KG.
Storage

Caution NDI-015 is sensitive to moisture. Water reacts with all isocyanate to form insoluble urea derivatives. NDI-015 should be stored in tightly sealed containers in cool and dry conditions. The lid of a container which has been opened must be replaced firmly as soon as possible. Under suitable external conditions the product can be dept for six months with effect form the date on which it leaves the factory.

Package
Standard container-paper drum with polyethylene insert, each contains 25kg; 2kg in each aluminum-foil bag, 24kg in per paper drum.

Storage

POLYESTER-020 is slightly hygroscopic, it should therefore be kept in a neet, dry place. POLYESTER-020 absorbs a small amount of water from the air. It therefore has to be dehydrated before being used for purposes in which the pressence of water would be disturing in the production of POLYESTER-020. For example, it has to be dehydrated before being reacted with NDI-015. If POLYESTER-020 is allowed to have an elevated water content over a fairly long period, its properties may be impaired.

Under suitable external conditonsPOLYESTER-020 can be kept for at least 6 months, beginning on the day of dispatch from the factory.
